I was in Japan, watching Radiohead in a huge stadium that could house 50,000 people. We were standing 20-30 meters away from the stage when it started. Total darkness, just a voice recording that Radiohead plays to open up their act. No phone screen lit in sight. When the lights came on, everyone is singing, jumping, and shouting their love for Radiohead. It was like being surrounded by hundreds of your friends getting giddy over Creep, seeing them play with your own eyes.
Back home, if you’re unfortunate to not be in front of the stage, you’ll be watching a sea of phone screens rather than seeing the act with your own eyes. You spend more time being annoyed. So you raise your hand with your phone to shoot videos instead, only to watch shaky videos after the show.
